Presentation of Spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green photosynthetic cyanobacterium that grows naturally in freshwater lakes in Asia, Africa and South America and has been consumed for thousands of years.

This superfood is particularly concentrated in plant proteins, phycocyanin, chlorophyll, vitamins and minerals .

Thanks to its high nutritional density, spirulina helps maintain vitality and tone, supports natural defenses and helps protect cells against oxidative stress.

Our organic spirulina is 100% pure and natural , and comes in the form of easy-to-swallow 500 mg tablets.

Usage tips

Take 1 tablet per day for 2 to 3 days, then take 1 additional tablet every 2-3 days until reaching 4 to 10 tablets per day, depending on your needs (4 to 6 tablets for a healthy adult, 6 to 8 for a pregnant woman, and 8 to 10 for an athlete).

Use this supplement during the day, before or during meals.

Since spirulina is rich in minerals, it is also advisable to drink plenty of water during supplementation to avoid digestive issues. In the context of a zinc supplementation, separate the intake of each supplement by a minimum of 2 hours.

Ingredients

Spirulina powder (Arthrospira platensis Gomont, thallus) from Organic Farming.

Precautions for use

Do not exceed 10 tablets per day (equivalent to 5 g).

Spirulina is not recommended for individuals with hemochromatosis (spirulina is high in iron), for those with phenylketonuria (spirulina is high in protein), and for smokers (spirulina contains beta-carotene). If you are on medication, please consult your healthcare provider.

It does not replace a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep out of reach of young children. Store in a dry place, away from heat and light.

What is spirulina?

Spirulina is a freshwater cyanobacteria with remarkable nutritional properties, including high levels of proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Its blue-green color is due to the presence of phycocyanin, a powerful antioxidant pigment.

What is spirulina made of?

Spirulina is composed of a variety of nutrients essential for the body:

  • Plant proteins;
  • Vitamins;
  • Beta-carotene;
  • Minerals and trace elements;
  • Phycocyanin;
  • Gamma-linolenic acid.

It is worth noting that it does not contain saturated fats, sugar and salt. It can therefore be consumed by people suffering from heart failure, diabetics and hypertensives, of course in agreement with the doctor.

Why take spirulina?

Rich in essential nutrients, spirulina contributes to the proper functioning of the immune system and helps reduce fatigue thanks to its iron content, thus promoting better vitality. This composition is particularly useful for preventing nutritional deficiencies, a common issue among vegetarians and vegans.

Spirulina also contributes to skin health, thanks to its amino acids which contribute to cell regeneration and its antioxidants, which protect cells against oxidative stress caused by free radicals.

Finally, thanks to its high protein and iron content, spirulina is an interesting supplement for active people, contributing to muscle recovery and maintaining vitality after exercise.

How is spirulina produced?

Our spirulina is grown in India, in shallow freshwater ponds containing alkaline water with a temperature between 28°C and 35°C, in an environment protected from any pollution, contaminants or pesticides.

Once harvested, the spirulina is filtered. A green paste, called "biomass", is then collected, which is drained and then pressed manually to extract the water.

Through this process, the biomass is transformed into fine filaments that resemble spaghetti, which are then cold-dried (at less than 50°C) in order to preserve the nutritional integrity of the product) and then ground until granules or flakes are obtained.

These are then compressed (also cold) to make tablets.

Thus, our spirulina is free of excipients, clumping agents or additives and is 100% pure.

Does the organic label for spirulina really exist?

Since May 7, 2017, spirulina has been part of the scope of EU regulation RCE 889/2008, which allows it to be granted access to the organic label. This label guarantees the compliance of spirulina with the organic farming charter:

  • not GMO,
  • no ionizing radiation during storage,
  • no chemical or mineral fertilizers except mineral nitrogen,
  • respect for sustainable development and the environment,
  • conservation of soil, water and air.

Why don't you offer spirulina grown in France?

We have chosen not to offer spirulina of French origin for three main reasons:

  1. Due to our climate not being very suitable for spirulina, it is necessary to recreate a growing environment similar to the original tropical climate, unfortunately with the help of artificial lighting and heating.
  2. Its price is prohibitive because the yields of French artisanal crops are relatively modest.
  3. French spirulina is not necessarily of better nutritional quality.

Why consume spirulina in tablets and not in powder?

We believe that tablets are the best way to benefit from the virtues of spirulina.

We find it much easier to consume tablets than powder, which needs to be weighed to measure out your daily intake.

In addition, it must be recognized that spirulina does not really taste good. By swallowing the tablets directly with a glass of water, the taste is then less pronounced compared to consumption in powder form!

I am vegetarian. Is spirulina useful for avoiding deficiencies?

Spirulina is rich in plant proteins and has a balanced supply of amino acids. It also contains B vitamins and iron (less well assimilated than iron from animal sources, of course, but better assimilated than that present in fruits and vegetables).

It is therefore an ideal supplement for vegetarians and vegans to avoid possible deficiencies.

What other food supplements should I combine with spirulina?

To promote iron assimilation, you can combine spirulina with vitamin C.

How to choose your spirulina food supplement?

To choose a spirulina food supplement, here are some criteria to take into account:

  • Origin: Choose spirulina grown under controlled conditions, without pesticides, preferably certified organic. Regions known for quality production are India, France and Hawaii.
  • Composition: opt for pure spirulina, without additives or excipients. Also make sure that it contains at least 60% protein and 14% phycocyanin.
  • Drying method: Cold dried spirulina preserves its nutrients better.
  • Form: Spirulina comes in different forms (powder, tablets, capsules). Choose the one that suits your preferences. Tablets are convenient to take with a glass of water, while powder can be added to smoothies or juices.
  • Price: This is of course an important criterion. Note that spirulina grown in France will often be more expensive, but this does not guarantee that it is of better quality than that produced in India, where the growing conditions are optimal.
