Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule present naturally in our body. An essential anti-aging active ingredient , it is a key ingredient in cosmetics. It helps hydrate and plump the skin while fighting wrinkles.

However, with age, its production slows down, hence the interest in increasing its external contributions.

What is it used for exactly? How to supplement? We take stock for you.

What is hyaluronic acid?

It is no coincidence that it is considered to be the star ingredient of cosmetics .

Discovered in 1934, hyaluronic acid, or hyaluronan, is a molecule present naturally in our body, particularly in the dermis.

This molecule acts like a real sponge, since it is capable of containing up to 1000 times its weight in water . Hyaluronic acid thus plays a major role in maintaining hydration, firmness and elasticity of the skin .

However, with age, its production declines (around 6% every ten years). It is estimated that at age 50, the body has already lost 50% of its initial reserves... The signs of aging on the skin are then clearly felt with the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, crow's feet, or even expression lines.

Hyaluronic acid supplementation is therefore ideal for delaying the skin aging process and thus preserving the youthfulness of the skin!

Types of hyaluronic acid

The human body has two types of hyaluronan: high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid .

High molecular weight hyaluronic acid forms a protective film that moisturizes the skin on the surface.

Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid acts inside the layers of the epidermis and ensures internal hydration. It helps to plump the skin while promoting the natural synthesis...of hyaluronic acid!

What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid?

For aging skin

Hyaluronic acid provides continuous hydration. As we have seen, it plumps the skin, promotes its suppleness and helps prevent wrinkles , while promoting a better complexion. In short, it helps keep skin young!

For dry skin

Hyaluronic acid activates the hydration of the deeper layers of the dermis and thus improves its texture. Among other things, it protects the skin by producing a film capable of retaining water. It is an effective solution to treat dehydration and dry skin.

For oily skin

Excess sebum excretion can become a problem. This can result from a lack of water, sunstroke or pollution. Thanks to its stabilizing action on the skin, hyaluronic acid fights excessive sebum production.

For dull skin

When the skin faces dehydration, it will become dull. By providing your body with hyaluronic acid, the skin will provide protection against UV rays, pollution and particles that could damage it. It is therefore very effective in regaining a radiant and even complexion .

For dark circles

By filling in wrinkles, hyaluronic acid helps erase dark circles and bags around the eyes . This is particularly why there are makeups containing this molecule!

For hair

Hyaluronic acid is an unbeatable ally for repairing damaged hair. It first repairs the hair in depth and then makes it grow healthily.

Like its effect on the skin, it also hydrates the scalp , while attracting the necessary supplies already present in the body to nourish it. Thus, it prevents hair loss .

If you are prone to hair breakage, hyaluronic acid is one of the recommended solutions to provide elasticity and suppleness.

How to choose the right hyaluronic acid food supplement?

Of course, hyaluronic acid can be provided during the course in the form of an injection (which only cosmetic surgeons and doctors can perform). But resorting to hyaluronic acid injection is not something trivial.

If you want to optimize your hyaluronic acid intake in a more natural way, moisturizing creams , serums and food supplements are an excellent alternative.

For optimal effects, it is important to check the dosage. For an oral treatment, the recommended daily dose is 100 mg per day , not less. And ideally 200 mg per day.

Furthermore, if you wish to do a hyaluronic acid treatment to have younger and more beautiful skin, it may be relevant to also opt for a collagen treatment (for example, we have combined hyaluronic acid and collagen within our Beauty Formula ).

Indeed, hyaluronic acid and collagen are complementary. Together they maintain the structure of the skin's layers. Collagen ensures firmness while hyaluronan nourishes and hydrates the former. By definition, collagen is a protein made up of amino acids, and the body has plenty of it.

Over time, as is the case with hyaluronic acid, the level of collagen also drops, hence a real interest in supplementing with both to hydrate the dermis over time.
