To be able to talk about the best spirulina, we offer you an overview of its different forms.

Depending on your use, if you want spirulina in cooking, or more as a treatment, the form of spirulina will be different. We let you discover for yourself the different forms with their advantages and disadvantages, and decide which is the best spirulina for you !

Spirulina flakes

Ah the glitter… At the risk of disappointing you, the best spirulina is not necessarily in the form of glitter. However, it is one of the least processed forms of organic spirulina: it comes in the form of “twigs”, very close to the shape and nature of the original algae.

✅ Advantages: spirulina flakes are theoretically the purest form of spirulina, and therefore the one which still contains the maximum number of trace elements. In this form, it can act as a spice and seasoning for your dishes.

❌ Disadvantages: its iodized taste is very marked here, as is its smell. It will tend to “green” your dishes and be very noticeable, which will not be to everyone’s taste! “The best spirulina you say?”

❔ How to consume it: rather as an ingredient to add to your dishes (soups, salads, pasta, etc.). Spirulina flakes are hardly suitable for direct and isolated consumption. It is certainly not the most suitable form for daily treatment.

Spirulina in capsules

Spirulina capsules are powder that has been placed in a capsule for ease of consumption.

✅ Advantages: the spirulina capsule offers a neutral taste and odor, which makes it easier to consume. For some people it is easier to swallow with water than tablets.

❌ Disadvantages: by definition, this form does not contain 100% spirulina, given the use of a capsule. Furthermore, the spirulina content of capsules is more limited (around 350-400 mg per capsule) than that of tablets (500 mg). For equivalent intakes, it will therefore be necessary to swallow more capsules.

❔ How to consume it: the capsules should be swallowed with water, to avoid sticking to the esophagus.

We recommend you

Spirulina tablets are one of the most common forms. They are close to capsules, but are made entirely of spirulina.

✅ Advantages: a very light taste and odor, easy dosing, and maximum concentration of spirulina.

❌ Disadvantages: with some manufacturers, the compression process can alter the nutritional quality of the spirulina (this is why ours is cold compressed). Depending on their circumference, some tablets may be more difficult to swallow.

❔ How to consume it: it is best to consume spirulina tablets with water. A course lasts several months, at a rate of 4 to 10 tablets per day (depending on needs).

Liquid spirulina

Available in bottle or ampoule form, we also find liquid spirulina... more or less pure!

✅ Advantages: easy to digest, it can be used in smoothies or drinks, especially as it is odorless and tasteless.

❌ Disadvantages: it is in fact often spirulina in the form of flakes or powder, which has then been mixed with water and possible other excipients. It can therefore lose a good part of its nutritional values in this form.

❔ How to consume it: as is or mixed with other drinks or liquids.

So, what is the best spirulina?
