Omega 3, gold for hair?

The latest ANSES study on the eating habits of the French , carried out in 2017, reveals that intakes of omega 3 fatty acids are far from sufficient. And yet, they are essential for the proper functioning of the body, in particular the heart, eyesight and cartilage.

However, the beneficial action of omega 3 on hair, skin or nails remains less known. We tell you more about the powerful effects of fatty acids in this article 🧬

Omega 3, but who are you?

Omega 3 are fatty acids, from the lipid family, made from a precursor called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Two other omega 3 fatty acids are synthesized by the body from ALA: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

What is annoying is that our body does not know how to produce this precursor itself. For more details on the issue, we invite you to consult our article dedicated to fatty acids .

To avoid lacking alpha-linolenic acid, and therefore omega 3, we have two solutions. Either provide our body with ALA through our diet, or do it through an omega 3 food supplement .

Discover the benefits of omega 3 on hair

Having healthy, shiny hair is a sign of good health. However, there are many sources of hair stress (sun, cold, shampoos, etc.). And that’s where omega 3 comes in 🦸‍♀️

An asset for hair growth

Good news, the nutrients released by omega 3 promote hair growth ! And as a bonus, these famous fatty acids also slow down the appearance of white hair.

Suffice it to say that we have every reason in the world to avoid an omega 3 deficiency for our hair, which is synonymous with accelerated hair loss – especially if a vitamin D deficiency is added.

Tone for scalp circulation

Those who have never had dandruff, raise your hand! This very unpleasant symptom may actually be the result of a lack of omega 3 .

And a bad scalp is an itchy scalp and causes hair loss . Here again, our friends omega 3 can help us. By boosting blood circulation in the scalp, they give it pep again 💪

Energy distributors

Omega 3 intervenes directly in the hair follicles by releasing numerous nutrients. This is how they strengthen the hair fiber and combat premature aging of hair by giving it spring and vitality.

Omega 3, a new beauty ally?

As with hair, the passage of time weakens our skin. It inevitably becomes thinner and drier. Our nails, for their part, are subject to many external attacks. They become soft and crack.

In these areas too, regardless of the form consumed, omega 3 are our friends. Besides, don't they say that beauty comes from within?

Benefactors for the skin

Is your skin dehydrated, do you suffer from eczema or psoriasis? This may be a sign of an omega 3 deficiency.

Of course, to combat these inconveniences, there are moisturizing creams or ointments against itching. Except that the creams will only act on the surface. Quite the opposite of the action carried out by omega 3 which, for its part, fights in depth and allows the formation of a hydrolipidic protective film.

And that’s without taking into account the anti-inflammatory role of omega 3 ! Another particularly useful quality for soothing itching linked to dermatological diseases. So, rather than spending the bank on a course of overpriced creams, regular consumption of omega 3 can do the job very well!

Omega 3, the protectors of our nails

Many of us wear fake nails or polish. But how do our nails cope? Well, the result is not very glorious... So what about the action of omega 3 on our nails?

To strengthen them and help them withstand these attacks, once again omega 3 has a card to play. Their moisturizing and anti-inflammatory actions also act on the health of our nails by promoting cell renewal.

What if omega 3 became the flagship element of your beauty products?

Without a doubt, the benefits of omega 3 on hair, skin and nails make it a valuable ally in your beauty routine.

To benefit from their wonderful effects, the PNNS 2019-2023 (National Nutrition and Health Program) recommends consuming a small handful of nuts daily (p. 41). But for greater convenience, turning to food supplements can represent a clear advantage and a big gain in practicality.

Or when a small bottle finds its place alongside everyday beauty products 😉
