How do weight loss dietary supplements work?
First of all, let's be clear: no slimming dietary supplement causes weight loss on its own. It acts as a support to a comprehensive approach based on a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
With this logic in mind, our range of weight loss dietary supplements combines two types of inputs:
- Nutrients such as chromium, B vitamins, and magnesium, which contribute to a normal energy-yielding metabolism.
- Active ingredients like Morosil™, a Sicilian red orange extract, whose clinical studies have observed effects on weight and body shape when combined with an appropriate diet and physical activity.
Each slimming dietary supplement in our range is designed to support your efforts, without ever claiming to replace them.
Which active ingredients should you choose in a slimming dietary supplement?
To help you choose your slimming dietary supplement, here are the active ingredients we have selected and what they actually provide.
Morosil™
Morosil is an extract of Sicilian red orange, specifically the Moro variety, grown at the foot of Mount Etna. Our formula based on Morosil™ provides 400 mg of extract per day, which is the exact dose used in two clinical studies (1)(2) that reported a reduction in body weight, waist circumference, and hip circumference in adults supplemented for 3 to 6 months. It is the flagship active ingredient of our selection, to be integrated into a global approach rather than considered a miracle solution.
Chromium Picolinate
Chromium is an essential trace element. It contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism and to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels (3). Thanks to these two actions, chromium is one of the most relevant active ingredients in a slimming formula. We offer it in the form of chromium picolinate, chosen for its excellent absorption.
B Vitamins and Magnesium
A weight loss journey often involves a more restricted diet, which can reduce the intake of certain essential nutrients. Among them, vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12 contribute to a normal energy-yielding metabolism (3), as does magnesium, which also helps reduce fatigue commonly experienced during a diet (3). To cover these needs, you can find these nutrients in our Multivitamins and in our Magnesium Bisglycinate.
Plant Extracts and Fibers
Certain active ingredients do not act directly on weight but have their place in a dietary rebalancing routine. Spirulina is a micro-algae dense in protein, appreciated for its satiating effect and for enriching a diet that can sometimes become depleted during weight loss periods. Notably, it provides iron, whose requirements are harder to meet when portions decrease. Turmeric, on the other hand, is traditionally used for digestive comfort, which is an asset when eating habits change.
Weight loss dietary supplements: support for a comprehensive approach
Weight loss relies primarily on a calorie deficit: spending more energy than you provide to the body.
Diet: the main lever
A balanced diet is the primary tool for reducing calorie intake: prioritizing vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains while limiting ultra-processed foods, refined sugar, and alcohol.
The goal is not necessarily to eat much less, but to fill your plate better: fewer empty calories, more nutritious, filling foods that are useful to the body. It is these choices, repeated over time, that make a difference before even thinking about weight loss dietary supplements.
Physical activity: the essential complement
Physical activity is the second pillar, inseparable from the first. The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity activity, which is about 30 minutes five days a week.
The ideal approach is to combine two methods: cardio (brisk walking, cycling, swimming), which increases calorie expenditure, and muscle strengthening (weight training, bodyweight exercises), which helps preserve muscle mass despite a calorie deficit. There is no need to aim for performance: it is consistency over time that makes the difference.
Do dietary supplements really make you lose weight?
To date, no active ingredient in our range carries a weight loss health claim validated by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority). The only claim of this type concerns glucomannan at a dose of 3 g per day, but this is an ingredient we do not use.
What our formulas provide are nutrients that contribute to a normal energy-yielding metabolism, such as chromium, B vitamins, and magnesium, which are particularly useful when a restricted diet reduces nutritional intake. Added to this are clinically studied active ingredients, such as Morosil, whose studies have observed an effect on weight and body shape when combined with an appropriate diet and physical activity.
Dietary supplements do not replace a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. They are not miracle products: weight loss relies mainly on a calorie deficit, physical activity, and diet quality. If you are undergoing medical treatment, ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any supplement. These products are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. For other precautions, please consult the information indicated on each product's label. In case of an adverse effect, report it to ANSES Nutrivigilance.
