Why take a food supplement when you are a woman?
Women's nutritional needs evolve throughout life, in rhythm with the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause.
Periods, in particular, lead to regular iron loss, which makes this requirement more delicate to meet for women than for men. Other nutrients are often supplied in insufficient quantities by the diet: magnesium, folates, vitamin D, or omega 3 (1).
A food supplement for women is no substitute for a varied diet or a healthy lifestyle. It complements the intake that your plate sometimes fails to cover, taking into account the stage of life you are going through.
Which women's food supplement should you choose according to your life stage?
The right supplement depends less on your age than on your situation. Identify the one that matches yours.
Throughout the menstrual cycle
The menstrual cycle is accompanied by natural hormonal variations and regular iron loss. Three nutrients deserve your attention. Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity (2). Magnesium contributes to a reduction in tiredness and fatigue and to normal nervous system function (2). Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin (2).
Our Women's Cycle Formula combines Affron® saffron, ginger, magnesium, and vitamin B6 in a formula free from isoflavones and phytoestrogens, designed for your well-being throughout your cycle. It provides 1.4 mg of vitamin B6 per day, which is 100% of the nutrient reference value.
To understand the phases of the cycle and what happens during them, consult our complete guide to the menstrual cycle, and find our entire selection in the collection dedicated to the menstrual cycle.
Trying to conceive, pregnancy, and breastfeeding
Requirements for folates, iron, iodine, and omega 3 increase from the moment you plan a pregnancy. Folates contribute to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy (2). Our Pregnancy Routine combines Folic Acid, Iron Bisglycinate, and Epax® Omega 3. Any supplementation during these periods requires the prior advice of a doctor or midwife. Find our selection in the pregnancy food supplements collection.
Perimenopause and menopause
As menopause approaches, sleep, mood, skin, and bone health become key areas of focus. Our Menopause Formula combines six active ingredients, including Affron® saffron, with no isoflavones or phytoestrogens. It also provides vitamin D, which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones (2). Discover all of our food supplements for menopause.
Fatigue, stress, sports, beauty: according to your lifestyle
Your needs also depend on your daily life. In periods of temporary fatigue, magnesium, iron, and vitamins B6 and B12 contribute to a reduction in tiredness and fatigue (2): see our fatigue food supplements. If your days are busy, browse our food supplements for stress. Do you play sports regularly? Find our food supplements for sports, including magnesium, which contributes to normal muscle function (2). As for beauty, zinc and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal hair, and vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin (2): explore our hair and nails and skin collections.
Which active ingredients should women prioritize?
Five families of active ingredients appear most frequently in women's needs. Here is what European regulations allow us to say about them (2).
Iron
Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, to normal oxygen transport in the body, and to a reduction in tiredness and fatigue (2). Our Ferrochel® Iron Bisglycinate provides 14 mg of iron per capsule, i.e., 100% of the nutrient reference value, in a highly absorbable chelated form. It is combined with vitamin C, which increases iron absorption (2). To learn more, consult our complete iron guide.
Magnesium and vitamin B6
Magnesium contributes to a reduction in tiredness and fatigue, to normal psychological functions, to the normal functioning of the nervous system, and to normal muscle function (2). Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity (2). Our Magnesium Bisglycinate combines both: 300 mg of magnesium per day in bisglycinate form, combined with taurine and vitamin B6 in its active form.
Folates and vitamin B12
Folates (vitamin B9) play a role in the process of cell division and contribute to normal blood formation (2). Vitamin B12 contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and to a reduction in tiredness and fatigue (2). Our Folic Acid provides 400 µg of Quatrefolic® folates, a form the body uses without a conversion step. Our Multivitamins bring together B-group vitamins among 29 vitamins, minerals, and plant extracts. On the link between folates and the cycle, read our article folic acid and heavy periods.
Omega 3 EPA and DHA
EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function, starting from 250 mg per day (2). Our Epax® Omega 3 provides 1,400 mg of EPA and DHA per daily dose, an intake well above this threshold, in triglyceride form and purified by molecular distillation.
Saffron and ginger
Saffron and ginger are two plants used for a long time. Our Women's Cycle Formula provides 30 mg of Affron® saffron extract, a patented extract standardized to 3.5% Lepticrosalides®, and 500 mg of ginger per daily dose. To learn more about this root, consult our ginger guide.

Precautions and points of vigilance
A food supplement is no substitute for a varied and balanced diet, a healthy lifestyle, or medical treatment. Respect the daily doses indicated on each product and keep supplements out of the reach of young children.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, seek advice from a healthcare professional before any supplementation. Our Women's Cycle Formula and our Menopause Formula are not recommended during these periods.
These two formulas contain saffron: they are contraindicated in case of antidepressant treatment. If you are on hormonal contraception or any other treatment, ask for your doctor's or pharmacist's advice.
In case of intense symptoms throughout the cycle, persistent irregular cycles, or a prolonged absence of periods, consult a healthcare professional.
A word from our expert
“When we formulate for women, we start with the nutrients that vary the most throughout life: iron, folates, magnesium, vitamin B6. We then choose the most highly absorbable forms and clear dosages, so that each formula complements the diet without substituting for it.”
Agathe Demazier, R&D Project Manager at Novoma, Master's degree in nutrition and food science.
